Diet To Preserve Memory
Drinking orange juice daily also appears to help. This conclusion comes from a Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health study involving 27,842 male health professionals. The men, whose initial average age was 51, recorded the amount of fruits, vegetables and other foods they ate daily when the 20-year long study began. They then reported this dietary information every four years for the next two decades. The researchers wrote that the men in the study who ate the most vegetables were 34 percent less likely to develop poor thinking skills than those who ate the fewest. They also found that men who drank orange juice daily were 47 percent less likely to develop poor thinking skills compared to those who drank OJ less than once a month. Overall, the study suggested that men who reported eating large amounts of fruits and vegetables 20 years ago were less likely to develop thinking and memory problems that those who reported eating the least, whether or not they were still consuming those foods six years before their final memory test. The study didn’t prove that fruits and vegetables and orange juice help protect against memory loss, but it did reveal a relationship between them.
