10 Weeks To Overcome Obesity?
New research from Ireland reveals that it is possible to lose a significant amount of weight and improve cardiovascular and mental health in just 10 weeks. These findings come from a study at the Croi (correct) Heart and Stroke Centre in Galway. Study author Aisling Harris, a cardiac and weight management dietitian, reports that at the start of the investigation the participants’ weight, blood pressure, fitness, cholesterol, and blood glucose levels were checked as well as their levels of anxiety and depression. Each was provided a list of personalized goals and a weight management plan. For the following eight weeks they all attended wellness sessions lasting 2.5 hours that included an hour-long exercise class as well as discussions of healthy eating, portion sizes, emotional versus physical hunger and stress management techniques including meditation. Average weight loss was two kilograms (about 4.4 pounds) although 27.2 participants lost more than three percent of their starting weight. Their cholesterol levels, blood pressure and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) also fell as did blood sugar levels among those with type 2 diabetes.
