Is Evening Exercise Better For Health?
Could when you exercise make a difference for good health? Researchers from the University of Sydney wanted to see if the timing of performing physical activity affects its benefits. They tracked the activity patterns of nearly 30,000 people with obesity over almost eight years using wearable devices.
They found that engaging in the majority of moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity in the evening — particularly between 6 p.m. and midnight — was associated with the lowest risk of premature death and death from cardiovascular disease. While further research is needed, the study highlights the potential importance of timing in physical activity when making recommendations for managing obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as for overall health.
