Help Reduce Belly Fat With Exercise
A University of Michigan study found that people with obesity who exercise regularly have healthier belly fat composition than non-exercisers with obesity. The researchers compared two groups of adults with obesity: 16 regular exercisers (working out at least four times a week for over two years) and 16 non-exercisers with similar body characteristics.
After analyzing subcutaneous fat tissue from both groups, they found that the exercisers had more blood vessels, mitochondria, beneficial proteins, and less harmful collagen, along with fewer inflammation-causing cells. These traits allow exercisers to store fat more efficiently in subcutaneous tissue, reducing the need for fat storage in unhealthy areas. This helps prevent fat accumulation around vital organs, which can lead to metabolic issues. Future studies will further explore how fat tissue functions differently in exercisers and non-exercisers.
