Could Time-Restricted Eating Spur Fat Loss?

A report by researchers at the University of Mississippi suggests that time-restricted eating, combined with exercise, might help trigger fat loss without any muscle loss. Time-restricted eating is a popular form of intermittent fasting that focuses on when to eat rather than calorie-counting. It typically involves limiting meals to a set period of time each day.
The researchers reviewed 15 previously published studies on time-restricted eating (combined with regular exercise) over the past decade. After analyzing the data, they found that healthy adults who followed an eight-hour eating window and exercised lost more fat and maintained lean muscle compared to those who just exercised over a period of more than four weeks. While the analysis showed promising results in healthy, active people, researchers say that more studies are needed to understand the effects of time-restricted eating on those who are less fit or not regularly exercising.
