How Refined Grains Could Harm Health
This news comes from a study published in the British Medical Journal that included 137,130 participants living in 21 low, middle and high-income countries around the world. Results showed that consuming more than seven daily servings per day of foods containing refined grains was associated with a 27 percent greater increase for early death, a 33 percent greater risk for heart disease and 47 percent greater risk for stroke. Instead, the researchers advised consuming more whole grain foods such as brown rice and barley and cutting back on cereal grains and refined wheat products.
