Curry It Up!
I love a good curry for the complex and fulfilling taste as well as the health benefits. Turmeric is usually the main culinary spice in these dishes and has been used in India for thousands of years.Other spices and herbs used in curries include coriander, cumin, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, and chilies.
Growing evidence suggests that turmeric may help protect against Alzheimerās disease. The main constituent of turmeric, a member of the ginger family is curcumin (no relation to the spice ācuminā which belongs to the parsley family). Curcumin appears to block the progression of Alzheimerās disease in mice. This rhizome may also offer protection against certain cancers, treat arthritis, benefit those with inflammatory bowel disease, reduce blood sugar, and more.
There are a wide variety of recipes called “curries” – some are based on ingredients and some are based on preparation method. There are dry curries cooked with very little liquid, and wet curries formed around broth, coconut milk or yogurt that are rich and satisfying.
Here are several curry recipes to get you started:
- Tofu Curry With Cauliflower, Rice Noodles & Cashews
- Chickpea & Broccoli Masala Curry
- Pink Lentil Curry
- Curried Salmon Soup
- Red Thai Curry
- Curried Greens
